2004 Nicorette still not sailing.
Posted by S. Allen at: 4:00pm on March 11 th 2007
The frustration of getting Nicorette sailing for the first time on a suitable light wind day has
illuded me yet again.
last sunday the 11 th March was the prefect day, very hot but with extremely light winds, the first
really perfect day of the last 3 that I've taken the model out and not been able to sail her.
It just wasn't going to be!
The first item I fit to the boat is her keel, this requires canting the mechanism fully to the
starboard side so I can fit the keel and do up the attaching screws.
A simply operation except it went 'bang' at the stop point,a failsafe had apparently failed and
was quickly powered off.
A quick look inside revealed loose wire cables, they'd jumped off the drum, pack her up and take
her home for evaluation and repairs.
The failsafe micro switch had done it's job but the thing had gone beyond it into the 'hardstop'
which will then cause something to break,it didn't because I'd been quick to switch it off.
If the failsafes totally fail, the mechanism will punch a hole through the hull.
On testing at home It would not power again to that side.
I reset and tensioned the cables and all was working as it should.
My conclusion is that the failsafe micro switch is set too fine in relation to the hardstop and both had
occured at the same time, the fix is to widen that setting a little.
