Week 35.

We danced my favourite step this week. I really enjoy Bolero for a number reasons -

1. There is no girlie hip wiggling - it's all precise macho steps, toe first onto a straight leg, chest out and very upright the way a dance should be. Not thinking about hip movement really helps the dancing.

2. No complicated steps to lead. Just a basic step forward and step back with a few simple twists.

3. A simple 1-2 beat that even this unco male brain can pick up on.

4. Some of the dance tracks are in English - so you know what the are singing about. Half of the Latin tracks I dance to could be "its raining men" sung by the Latin equivalent village people for all I know.

This week I found another reason to like Bolero. It can be danced to songs from my generation. Don't get me wrong I love dancing the Bolero to "dream a little dream of me" (especially when Eb sings). But this week I was amazed to find we can dance Bolero to songs by artists like Elton John. My favourite dance for the night was a Bolero to the Tracy Chapman song "baby can I hold you tonight".

Thanks Carolyn for opening my eyes to other musical possibilities in Latin dance. You are worth you weight in gold - perhaps that is not enough - maybe Ian's weight in gold.
