Rueda 101 - for dummies and uncos (uncoordinated people)..

After much practice, support and most of all understanding from partners - I have managed (somewhat) to catch up on the two weeks of missed Rueda. Many of the calls learnt in earlier weeks come as second nature but I struggle with the newer ones and find some callers have variations on those I thought I knew. For instance - castigala - meaning to punish her can be called as castigulo - meaning punish him *ouch* (I still have a welt on my bum thanks to one of the girls). Also other variations like "a la derecha" - to go to the right and " izquierda" - to go to the left can be called went doing hombres el centro. Not knowing this causes another leader to end up stepping into your space.

Some of the calls we learnt this week related to the Spanish numbers for the numbers 0, 8 and 80. In a zero (0) you do a lap around the girl. With ocho (8) you do half a lap around your girl (clockwise) run behind the girl on your right, do half a lap in a anti-clockwise direction, run back behind your girl again and then half a lap clockwise to complete - hence making a figure of 8. Ochenta - is just a ocho with a zero on the end - 80. Most important - do no run with your head down - in case you meet someone going the wrong way!

I found a website that sounds out the Spanish number - click here to goto that site.

The calls week were -

Parriba, Muevete, Zero, Ocho, Ochenta.

Steve - many thanks to "the family" for helping me cram
