Week 13. You can tell when you are going to have a good night by how close you manage to snag a park to where you want to be. This is Steve's rule #30 something. This doubly applies when it is raining. This Tuesday night it was raining and I managed to squeeze the car into a small park between two vans directly outside Rio. I got out of the car and checked the sign to make sure it was not a CLEARWAY (that was a cheap shot at Andrea)
e-mail me and I will tell you the entire funny story.New instructor tonight - Jada (pronounced jade-a). Class did not start well. First of all Jada tried to deafen us by turning the sound up too high on microphone. I think it was a problem with the batteries as the sound kept cutting in out. We were not long into the class when she took the mike off and resorted to talking loudly. Being nasty smart arsed level one students we took every opportunity to try and drown Jada's voice out by talking amongst ourselves. Jada must have used her psychic power to call for reinforcements and Ian appeared. His towering presence was enough to make the rowdy one's (wasn't me sir) be quiet so the others could hear properly.
We learnt another new step. This is a bit like the Bossa Nova - we stand on the left leg keeping it straight and hanging the right leg to the side. It has a fancy Spanish name but I think of it as "propping up the bar". We then transfer our weight into the bent right foot and roll on the ball of the foot to the right side. As we do this we swing our right arm past our right leg in a scooping action. I call this action "goosing the girl walking past the man propping up the bar". The weight then transfers into the right leg, which straightens. I call this "man pretending to be looking the other way after goosing girl walking past the bar". The action is then repeated on the opposite side. I am not sure why we are developing this technique but I am sure it will come in handy sometime soon (hopefully not in a bar).
The bad thing about 5:30 class is the mad rush you have from work to get to class on time and then at about 6pm my stomach starts making very unpleasant noises. The good thing is that it lends itself to going out in a large group afterwards for dinner and coffee. After class I was lucky enough to be invited out for coffee with a bunch of other level 1 students. The six of us wandered down Boundary Street to the Noodle bar. I was very please to be included in a clique. Myself, Violin Boy, Electric Boy, No MSG girl, Clearway girl and She who dives with sharks, sat down for a quick bite and chatted about dancing and stuff (names changed to protect the innocent). I'd like to thank Colin for inviting me along on Tuesday night.
Steve.
