Українсьйий Молодечий Церковний Хор св. Андрея
St Andrew's Ukrainian Youth Choir
In 1981, through the initiative of the Parish Priest, Fr Ivan Szewciw, the St Andrew's Parish was able to form a Youth Church Choir- "Струмочок" with Mrs Mary Senkowycz-Duma as its director and conductor. The choir boasted an active membership of many young second generation Ukrainians who not only lifted the spirit of the parish with their beautiful voices, but, were also able to socialise and enjoy many outings as a young group.
In August 1997, Mrs Oksana Rohatyn-Wasylyk commenced working with the St Andrew's Ukrainian Youth Choir in the position of musical director/choir director.
The Choir has 22 active members varying in age from six to sixteen, with some of these children representing the third generation of Ukrainians in Australia. The Choir celebrates Divine Liturgy on the first two Sundays of each month at St Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lidcombe and also performs on various other religious and special community occasions.
With a new version of the Divine Liturgy being taught, the Choir holds regular full day workshops and rehearsals on the first and second Saturday afternoon of each month.
The President of the Choir's Parents Committee is Mrs Olya Chokula who takes an active part in the administration of the Choir along with other interested parents.
