On Monday, 26th August, Fr Zenon Chorkawyj sent a letter
inviting Ukrainian Catholics in Sydney to attend the Jubilee Celebrations at St
Andrew's Catholic Church.
The Jubilee Celebrations were begun in Melbourne in July, 1999 and were
held in all Ukrainian parishes around Australia.
In Sydney the celebrations acknowledged the care, concern and efforts of
the clergy, the Basilian Sisters and the laity for the good of the religious
and parish life at St Andrew's parish. Many of the parishioners sacrificed
their lives with donations of time, money and hard work to provide the faithful
with a church building, a convent, parish school amongst other projects.
Ukrainian families were invited to attend the Jubilee Celebration held on
the Feastday of St Andrew - 12 December, 1999 at Lidcombe.
On Saturday, 11th of December 1999, the official opening of the Exhibition
of Ukrainian Religious Art took place in the Parish Hall.
Celebrations began with special liturgies on Saturday (11/12/99) and
continued on Sunday with a pontifical Divine Liturgy on Sunday followed by a
Jubilee Reception at the Ukrainian Youth Hall, Lidcombe.
