Disc Phonographs and Gramophones Mario in the Media / Publicity
|
Hi I'm Mario Frazzetto ....and I am Phonoholic. I first caught “the bug” in 1991, at the age of 13. I became a collector quite accidentally. My Father had been a stamp and coin collector for quite a number of years. He also owned a GLENOLA upright gramophone. When my brother and I were younger we loved to turn that old crank until one day SNAP went the spring………… ………………… years passed .......and the spring remained broken, and the machine stood there, silent. It was time for the annual Coin and Stamp Show at the Royal Exhibition buildings here in Melbourne. My Father, Tony, took my brother, Mark, and Myself along to the Coin and stamp show. It just so happened that there was an off-side display of Radio’s and some gramophones. The gentleman in charge of the display, told my father that he could repair the broken spring on the Glenola. That day something went ding (not snap) and there was no looking back the bug was caught. Since then my mother, Josephine, has wished that we'd stayed home that day!! Whilst I have soft spot for Cylinder Phonographs I am interested in all types of Crank Phonographs and Gramophones. I am a member of the Vintage Sounds Association of Victoria (The Phono Society - which meets the SECOND Friday of each month at the South Camberwell Tennis Club Rooms). I'm also a member of the HRSA—Historical Radio Society of Australia, and in the past have been a member of the AHTS—Australian Historical Telephone Society. I began creating this page, in its original format, on Sunday the 3rd of March 2002 so that I could tell others a little about how I became a collector, and to show some of the machines in the collection.
