The Mame table is a 80's Cocktail style video game cabinet. It contains a
PC running MAME
(a Video Game emulator). The Mame-table is located in the "Man cave" (don't
blame me, the name was my
girlfriends idea). The Man cave is a 'English Style' Bar under the house which
was constructed by the previous home owner.
In hindsight I
should of constructed the cabinet from scratch as apposed to gutting an old
Hankin Cocktail cabinet and putting new hardware. The time/money I thought I
would save by bypassing cabinet construction has been eaten away by the need of
finding ways to stuff hardware in the confined space
and adequately ventilating it. PC's and monitors get freeken hot (Oh der!)
The
80's video games I tend to play are mainly vertical. Galaga, 1943, Lady Bug,
Mappy etc So the monitor is mounted vertically. For Horizontal Games like Hyper
Olympics (Track N Field in US) I have the software set to 'stretch mode'.
Even though there is much documentation on how to hook up Arcade monitors to a
PC I decided to use a computer monitor rather than an Arcade monitor.

Anticipated
initial Questions:
Q) Why would you waste your money and
time building a 80's Video game cocktail cabinet?
A) It seemed like a pretty cool thing to rest a cold beer on.
~~
Q) Why waste time Constructing a Mame-table
Website?![]()
A) Mainly to give something back to the '80's Video Gaming Community'. Most of the
resources
I used were on the internet. The Web sites encouraged me document the construction with the
gaming community (seemed only fair). In any case the ISP gives you
free web space, and it's not a bad idea to brush up your HTML skills in this day
and age.
Q) What is the Man-cave?
A) Unfortunately no-one can tell you what
the Man-cave is. You have to see it for yourself......
Q) How old are you now?
A) 33
