“Manoeuvre”                                                  2001
 - Monoprint from Football (Acrylic on Paper)

Rugby League is the most popular game of football in Alan Tulloch’s home state of Queensland.
Rugby League originated as a ‘working class’ breakaway from Rugby Union.
Comedic commentators Roy Slaven and H.G. Nelson joke that it is a ‘simple game for simple people’.
Despite this comment, it is a fast moving game that has responded to audience need for entertainment through the game.
It still bears some of the working class origins but it is also marked by modern aims to interact with modern audiences.
It is a social document as much as it is ‘just a game’.
“Manoeuvre” is a response to some Rugby League players’ need to add ‘flourish to the way the ball is ‘touched down’ over the goal line.
The image is a print from an inked football that is ‘manoeuvred’ onto the paper.
