Concern for human rights has been a personal attribute
partially influenced by overheard conservations between my parents when I was a boy. I was surprised that even though my father generally voiced disapproval over my lacklustre performance in the home, private
conversations revealed an optimism that I would pull through. Also being the only boy in a family with 4 sisters allowed me to develop ideas (though fallacious at that stage) about victimhood.
Nevertheless, I genuinely feel for the plight of
minorities or victims.“Fend” took too
many years to find its form out of an un-named performance in 1995 to a Photo Documentation with the name “Fend” in 2001.This artwork referrs to the disappearance of a young lady on a nearby highway. I used photos of the ‘memory-trigger signs’ in conjunction with
a headguard associated with ‘men’s play’ to question where men should stand in relation to the safety of unguarded individuals in the community. |
