There is some  reluctance with which I pursue the development of ideas about masculinity.  Men  have a great ability to quickly retake higher ground.
I do not wish to negate the gains through feminism.
I aim for balanced interactivity - not  domination (which history and social structures are so laden with).
My work on masculinity aims to critique and to offer some forms toward  reconstruction.
This artwork is  part of a series of lecterns which are constructed to examine various ‘assumptions to power’.  All works in this series are made of pine and ply,  deliberately avoiding ‘woods of privilege’.
‘Dictum’ is  motorised and ‘jerks’ side to side something like a large metronome.  An  accident of creation has been that the character of the motor causes the lectern  to slowly pivot in a spiralling path, allowing the artwork to dangerously mingle with gallery visitors.
