This artwork is part of a much broader series that examines sporting codes as ‘social and anthropological documents’.
In particular, “Stack” focuses upon Rugby Union, developing a ‘motif’ that relates to the process by which a ball is
returned to play.Other sports with artworks under immediate development are Rugby League, Australian Rules,
Cricket, Basketball and Netball.The commitment to football is ‘quite left-field’ for Alan Tulloch as he has
not been a life-long player or follower of these games.The artworks diffuse common notions of masculinity with
the aim to frame up different images of masculine character that go beyond the age span of the men who usually play these games. |
