”Aerial” - Unfired Raku Clay on Wire Support 1997 |

The meaning of place is an ongoing interest for Alan Tulloch. He is particularly concerned with having ‘light touch’ interventions through non-permament installations. This artwork, “Aerial” is formed with wet clay on a stretched wire frame. As the clay form dries, shrinkage on the rigid wire support causes the clay to crack in varied ways. The ‘elevation of earth’ (the clay) has an interesting irony when installed in the landscape. The title “Aerial” increases the irony, developing a suggestion that the corner diagonals are reaching to receive messages from the outside world.
The clay in this artwork cannot be fired to create a permanent artwork but similar uses of the clay are open to casting techniques which can offer the
possibility for work to have a longer life in a site. |
